Angle 1 – Free Session Offer

Subject: Working with You
Hi there,
I hope this finds you well.
I found you on LinkedIn – I saw you are Operations Manager at [your organisation]. I hope you don’t mind this slightly different message.
I wondered if you would be interested in a free coaching session with me to explore practical ways to reduce miscommunication and improve handoffs across your operations team.
I work with operations teams in mid-sized businesses who are struggling with cross-department miscommunication and repeated errors to help them reduce friction and rework.
If this is something that’s relevant to you, I’d love to see if I can help you too.
To be transparent, I offer these sessions as a kind of ‘loss leader’. I help you get clarity and an action plan to move forward – I get the chance to see whether I can genuinely be helpful…and occasionally these conversations lead to working together longer term. Sometimes they don’t. Either outcome is completely fine and there’s no pressure or obligation beyond the session itself.
If you’re interested, I’d love to hear from you.
Many thanks and all the best,
Mark Burlinson

Hi there,
Just checking you saw my previous email?
I’ve copied it below in case it’s helpful.
I’d love to offer you a free coaching session, if it would be useful to you.
I help operations teams with things like missed handoffs and repeated errors, escalating conflict when styles clash, and withdrawal or passive-aggressive behaviour, among other things.
Do let me know if you’d be interested.

Hi there,
I wanted to briefly follow up in case my earlier message regarding offering you a free coaching session slipped past you. I’ve included it again below for context.

PS – I also have a free guide for operations teams in mid-sized businesses. It covers the hidden reasons teams keep misunderstanding each other, why it happens, and practical steps teams can take to adapt and improve collaboration. If you’d like to take a look at that, I’d be glad to send it over and hear your thoughts.

Angle 2 – Asking for a Referral

Subject: Introduction
Hi there,
I hope this finds you well.
We haven’t met, but I came across your profile on LinkedIn and saw that you’re the Operations Manager at [your organisation]. I hope you don’t mind me reaching out with a slightly different kind of message.
I’m currently offering a few free one-to-one coaching sessions to connect with new people and explore potential future working relationships. I work with operations teams in mid-sized businesses who are dealing with miscommunication between departments that causes errors and delays, and want to achieve smoother collaboration and fewer mistakes.
I wondered whether you might know anyone who could benefit from a free session like this. If someone comes to mind and you’d feel comfortable making an introduction, I’d really appreciate it.
These sessions are designed to have standalone value. My aim is always to make a real difference in a single conversation, with no expectation that anyone needs to go further with me.
Of course, if this isn’t relevant or no one comes to mind, no problem.
Many thanks for your time,
Mark Burlinson
